Position: Senior Associate, Strategic Advisory Services

Location: Washington, DC

Summary: The Senior Associate will have a combination of experiences in delivering high-end strategic advisory services and/or a demonstrated knowledge of, and proven skills in, security risk management, international security policy and the application of physical and cyber security technologies, and with the ability to operate at the nexus of global threat, security technology, security, policy, business and finance. The Senior Associate will support engagements across the Firm’s Strategic Advisory Services practice, helping clients build more resilient organizations and gain competitive advantage within the security risk management and security technology domains. Assigned projects will range from physical and cyber security risk management engagements to market research, industry and legislative analysis, due diligence and strategic consulting. The successful candidate will assist in maintaining strong client relationships, coordinating internal project team interactions, conducting research, reviewing documents and producing or contributing to necessary deliverables to meet/exceed client needs. The Senior Associate will be exceedingly well organized, flexible, pronounced verbal and written communications skills, a driven and efficient researcher, should enjoy the challenges of working in a dynamic office, and must demonstrate a high level of professionalism and discretion in handling sensitive business information and client issues. The Senior Associate will build toward subject matter expertise in the domain of security risk management, international security policy and the application of physical and cyber security technologies.

  • Strong understanding of, and proven experience in, some combination of:
    • Security risk management, including dynamic threat environments, common threat actor tactics, techniques and procedures and vulnerability mitigation
    • Physical and cyber security infrastructure and/or IT networks and operations
    • US Government intelligence, homeland/national security and defense agencies, programs, budgets and mission areas
    • Strategic consulting or professional services in the above mission areas
    • Research methods and how to conduct effective open source intelligence collection and analysis
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks, work on multiple projects concurrently, and manage rapidly-changing assignments
  • Collaborative, team player who has a proven ability to function within a dynamic, often non-collocated team
  • Strong presentation and communications skills, with ability to understand, assess and articulate complex business, market, policy and/or technical issues
  • Ability to articulate how skills learned in previous roles may apply to complex client issues in the security sector
  • Strong proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Security or other relevant industry certifications preferred

Education & Experience:             

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Homeland Security, International Relations, Political Science, History, or other relevant field required; Master’s Degree preferred
  • Three to five years of directly relevant U.S. Government and/or private sector commercial experience, with a quantitative record of success
  • Prior experience in the delivery of high-end professional services desired
  • Senior Associate title commensurate with experience

  • Responsibilities:       Strategic Advisory Services
  • Manage advisory services engagement lifecycle, to include:
    • Developing trusted relationships with and providing a high-level of thoughtfulness and responsiveness to clients
    • Organizing and coordinating internal teams ranging from junior staff to former Federal agency heads and industry CEOs
    • Managing and organizing administrative tasks, including contract execution, meeting/call scheduling, knowledge management, etc.
    • Developing and presenting deliverables, findings and recommendations to clients in senior business roles, including C-suite stakeholders
  • Provide industry advice, knowledge and technical or subject-matter expertise in support of the Firm’s Merchant Banking clients
  • Travel domestically and internationally in support of client engagements, and to attend conferences

Research & Analysis

  • Coordinate, conduct and synthesize research from multiple sources (such as industry reports, trade publications, news articles and interviews) regarding markets, technologies, budgets, procurement activities, legislation and policy formulation, economic data and other key trends related to intelligence, homeland and national security, security technology and aerospace and defense sectors
  • Perform competitive assessments, technology evaluations and financial analysis on companies and organizations in the above sectors
  • Build and utilize data-based methodologies and frameworks to inform clients’ decisions on growth strategies

Business Development Support

  • Support sales and business development initiatives by preparing pitch materials, writing proposals and participating in meetings with potential clients
  • Cultivate and pursue new business opportunities with guidance from senior colleagues

Teambuilding & Professional Development

  • Manage and mentor interns and analysts; support recruiting and training efforts
  • Acquire and maintain subject matter expertise in selected industries/market segments and contribute to the development of the Firm’s “points of view” and strategic insights

Position Summary:

The Intern position offers unique exposure to thought leaders engaged in security and risk management as well as hands-on experience with media relations, event management, marketing strategy and techniques, communications research and writing.  The Intern will primarily support Strategic Communications operations but will have the opportunity to work with individuals across all lines of business focusing much of their duties on administrative and research support as well as event logistics.  The position provides opportunities to gain invaluable knowledge about the technology and security industries as well as marketing and media relations.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and conduct issue focused research and draft summary memos and reports  
  • Provide logistical support to prepare and execute firm wide events. This could include venue research, list building, registration management, and day of event coordination.   
  • Perform daily administrative duties in support of the Strategic Communications team including setting up locations for media interviews, contact management, media monitoring and reporting, and research and execution to support communication projects and initiatives
  • Potential to work alongside Communications Associate to prepare and produce marketing materials
  • Assist with website responsibilities to include updating new content and developing ideas to use the website to market firm activities and strategic campaigns
  • Assist with writing and editing media advisories, website language, and collateral materials
  • Research and  build firm’s master media list
  • Provide administrative support and scheduling assistance

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Education: Pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree from a top-rated university with strong academic performance in marketing or communications course work.
  • Work Experience: Previous work in communications or marketing such as with a public relations agency, congressional office or corporate communications environment preferred but not necessary.
